More About the Grand Lodge of Hawaii

The Grand Lodge of Hawaii adheres to the American Doctrine of Exclusive Territorial Jurisdiction, which includes recognition of the Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Hawaii.

The official insignia of the Grand Lodge of Hawaii was personally created and designed by our late Brother Mikel Calvin who was a Fellow Craft Mason of Lodge Le Progres de l'Oceanie at the time. The concept Brother Calvin followed in designing the insignia was to achieve a blend of Masonic symbolism with a Hawaiian theme which he accompled most exquisitely.

Fraternal recognition of the Grand Lodge of Hawaii was granted very early on by the Grand Lodges of Nebraska, Alaska, and California in that order. Within the first seven months of being instituted the Grand Lodge of Hawaii was granted Fraternal recognition by the United Grand Lodge of England, and the Grand Lodges of Ireland and Scotland.

In demonstrating their support for the newly instituted Grand Lodge of Hawaii, Hawaiian Lodge purchased a complete set of aprons and collars for the entire Grand Lodge Officers' Corps.

In the interest of helping the Grand Lodge get a running start Lodge Le Progres de l'Oceanie purchased the Grand Lodge's first computer complete with all the appropriate software.

Although the Grand Lodge had been officially constituted and the officers installed, it did not have an office in which to conduct the business of the Hawaii Jurisdiction. However, the four lodges who own the Honolulu (Makiki) Masonic Temple--Hawaiian Lodge, Lodge Le Progres de l'Oceanie, Honolulu Lodge, and Pearl Harbor Lodge--in the true Masonic spirit of brotherhood came to the rescue. They provided the necessary office space for the Grand Lodge office staff at the Makiki Temple. The cost to the Grand Lodge was very modest as it was limited to the direct cost of the utilities and maintenance.

The Grand Lodge office remained at the Honolulu Masonic Temple from 1989 until 1998, when it was relocated to its present location in the heart of downtown Honolulu. You can reach the Grand Lodge via mail via the following address:
